British 35 years old paper artist, Su Blackwell is well known for creating intricate sculptures from the pages of books. Her art-works transform books into fantastical three-dimensional forms and looks like a fairy tale. The fusion of art and literature is a key characteristic of Blackwell’s work.The sculptures are then dramatically lit and photographed to create a magical world of beauty and mischief to illustrate the stories. She  finds her books in second-hand bookshops. The literary histories and stories they contain interest her as much as the physicality of the book itself. Minor damage from age such as stains and frays add to the character of the final sculptures.

metal sculpture by Junko Mori

Japanese metal artist, Junko Mori was born in 1974 in Yokohama. Junko Mori works extensively in silver, crafting achingly detailed (but thoroughly modern) renditions of pinecones and  fanciful organisms (each petal or spike tipped in silver), candelabrum and larger (but still small scale) sculptures. The assembling of forged and cast metal is the key to Junko Mori’s work, whether mild steel or almost pure silver. Her observations of tree and plant matter are the driving force behind many of her sculptures which vary in scale from small objects in precious metal through to fairly massive welded steel works of art.
